PET MASSAGE THERAPIST SCHOOL

 

The following classes, as well as the Core Curriculum, are required to receive a certificate from ACA as a Pet Massage Therapist.

 

Animal Massage Therapy I – 40 hours

Cost: $695 plus books

Theory:          20 hrs

Hands-on:     20 hrs

Homework:   25 hrs


This is the initial course to receive a certificate of program completion as a certified pet massage therapist.  Topics include the benefits of massage; the basics of how to approach and work with animals, learning how to use one’s hands as a tool and some basic massage techniques.

Students will be able to:

- Approach and assist any dog in becoming "comfortable" through the use of the student's body language.
- Explain benefits of massage.
- Demonstrate different methods of using one's hands as a tool.
- Demonstrate basic massage techniques.

 

Animal Massage Therapy II - 40 hours

Cost: $695

Theory:          20 hrs

Hands-on:     20 hrs

Homework:   25 hrs


This course continues with the fundamentals of pet massage.  Topics covered include information about the muscular/skeletal systems of animals; Galt assessment; massage for specific needs including sports, medical and relaxation; acupressure and passive range of motion.

Students will be able to:

- Conduct a Galt Assessment.

- Discuss differences and similarities of massage for specific needs; sports, medical and relaxation.

- Demonstrate acupressure and passive range of motion.

- Discuss the values of each of these techniques.

Animal Massage Therapy III – 40 hours

Cost: $695

Theory:          15 hrs

Hands-on:     20 hrs

Homework:   25 hrs


This final course not only discusses and practices the advanced techniques of animal massage, but also includes building client/vet relationships, developing a pet massage business.

Students will be able to:

- Independently assess where dogs are having muscular issues and what type of massage is most appropriate.

- Demonstrate advanced techniques of massage.

- Discuss issues that may arise with clients and how to overcome these issues.

- Discuss employment of business opportunities for pet massage therapists.
